We're so happy to introduce the couple who won the coveted prizes from the "Get Hitched in Georgetown" event-- Megan and Matt! We'd like to welcome Megan to the blog today to share the story of how the happy couple came to be.
Megan: I was a sophomore at Georgetown looking for a job and Matt was managing a restaurant in Georgetown. As luck would have it, I ended up getting hired at Matt's resturant (he was on vacation at the time so another manager did the hiring). Matt was put in charge of training me and from early on I had a "crush." I remember going home and telling one of my roommates about my cute boss. I knew a workplace romance probably wasn't the best idea and I assumed Matt wasn't interested in one of his lowly employees, so I kept my affections to myself. Matt and I worked together for a year before I began to catch on to what he now refers to as his obvious attempts at showing his interest in me; I can sometimes be awkwardly unaware of overt social cues! After months of getting every schedule request I wanted and Matt bringing tools to work to fix my antique road bike who's tires were always flat or seat broken, I began to catch on. But that didn't mean I had the nerve to do anything about it.
Finally one night as I was closing the bar, Matt asked if we could get coffee before his upcoming week-long vacation. I was so caught off guard I just giggled and ran off to finish cleaning something, but I knew this was my chance. So I eventually found a way to bring up the conversation again and said yes to the offer of coffee. A few days later we met up for our first official date at a cafe in Dupont. That afternoon Matt left for vacation and we spent the week exchanging flirty text messages and phone calls. After he returned, we attempted (rather poorly) to keep our relationship a secret at work, but outside of work we spent most of our free time together. That May I graduated from Georgetown (and quit my job) and in August I started at Georgetown School of Medicine. We moved into an apartment together in Georgetown and spent the next four years taking care of our two cats and building our life together.
