The DC cherry blossoms are in full bloom right now, and with a few branches in our storefront window, we have their pretty pink blossoms on the mind!
They are such a beautiful floral detail to add to a wedding or bridal shower, and can be incorporated into many different elements-- from decor to invitations to dessert!

We've been talking about spring quite a bit on the blog recently, but we can't help being pumped about the warm weather considering the brutal winter we had! At Hitched, we're in the height of bridesmaids' season, so we thought we'd share some of the current trends we're loving.
Neutral beige and champagne tones can be tough colors to pull off on a variety of skin tones, but in a crisp shantung with a bit of sheen, they're sure to make your gals glow. For a vintage French feel, try pairing this color with pale pink and cream flowers and decor.
Bold colors are no longer reserved for summer soirees. We love these lightweight frocks in fun, citrus-y shades. Try pairing them with calmer colored flowers.
Blush is one of our favorite colors on 'maids this season, and there are so many tones to work with. We're seeing more and more brides put their girls in various shades of the same color, and we even like the idea of incorporating different fabrics for a bit of added texture-- these Amsale dresses would make a really cool palette in photos.
Want to do something even more non-traditional than a variety of colors? Try a printed fabric, which we've noticed popping up with many of our bridesmaid companies. We love this idea for a less formal or outdoor affair. Added bonus-- these are gowns that your besties might actually wear again.

As with most areas of fashion, bridal gown trends have come and gone over the years. One of our fabulous part-time staff members, Jasmine, works full time for the Smithsonian Institution, so we thought we'd bring her in to give us a little history lesson on how bridal gowns of the past have influenced some of today's styles!
As seen in this illustration taken from Godey’s Lady’s Book, (call it the Glamour magazine of the late 19th century), a cinched waist and tiers made for a lovely bride! Judd Waddell embraces this timeless effect in a beautiful gown full of asymmetrical tiers and an elegant, ruched bodice.
These cute bridesmaid headbands circa 1927 have come back into the bridal world in a dazzling way. For instance, this Erin Cole headband looks great as a hairpiece or fun beaded belt.
Jacqueline Bouvier donned a lovely, off-the-shoulder gown for her wedding to John F. Kennedy in 1953. This timeless look from designer Augusta Jones accents a brides' tiny waist and beautiful shoulders.
This pattern from 1963 shows a gown with a full, flowing train that appears to be floating off the dress, and this modern day Ulla-Maija gown features a detachable satin train-- perfect for a bride who wants drama for the ceremony, but a lighter dress for the party!
This Albert Capraro gown from the 1980's shows off a cinched waist and large floral embellishments. This magnificent Amsale gown updates the look with a tightly rouched bodice and handmade taffeta flowers.

There are tons of gorgeous floral centerpiece options out there, but we love the idea of incorporating less conventional plant life into your tablescape. One of our favorite ideas is to use birch wood pillars as stands or vases. They're an interesting way to bring the outdoors in, and the paper white color really makes other colors pop!
