We've got the most incredibly chic wedding to share with you today, courtesy of one of our fabulous Hitched brides, Kim. Kim was an absolute delight to work with, and she and her new hubby, Jake, pulled off a wedding that is utterly drool-worthy. The proof is in the pictures-- check out these stunning images from Elaine of Hay McKenna photography, along with Kim's story about the big day!

Kim: Jake and I have way too much fun together. Ever since we met at Elon University, we've spent our time laughing either A) at ourselves, or B) at each other. What a team we make: Jake’s a rational thinker in the banking industry, and I’m an over-analytical therapist (poor Jake!). I’ve always appreciated his easy-going, light-hearted approach to life. He’s taught me to have more fun and take myself less seriously (I’m still not sure what I’ve taught him….but I’m sure it’s something extremely important…). Having fun and making sure we laughed was exactly the approach we took to planning our wedding.
When I called to book my first appointment at Hitched, Annie asked me about my "336" area code. I proceeded to explain to her how I'm stuck with it for eternity because I went to college in North Carolina, and the thought of changing one's cell phone number is simply daunting. I quickly learned that in fact Annie went to the same college and Jake and me: Elon University! It was fate. Annie immediately made me feel comfortable with the, let's be honest, awkward experience of having someone you've never met before see you in your underwear as you try on dresses. After working with Annie for less than an hour, I already felt like she was my new best friend.
Working with Hitched was not just going to a store to find a dress. Hitched completely changed my wedding planning experience: I made friends, I had fun, and I felt like I was cared about. Going to fittings was a blast, because I would get to catch up with Annie. I think my favorite memory at Hitched was the Enchanted Atelier Accessories Night where I found my headpiece. I new from the start that I was not a "veil girl", and I had been dreading the search for some sort of contraption that would serve the purpose of the veil (mainly to appease everyone up who would ask “Oh! Are you wearing a veil..?!”). Of course with Annie's intuition and ability to get to know people's taste remarkably quickly, she was able to present me with the fantastic BLACK floral headband that would serve as my veil. It was so me: spunky and fun! (…Jake would say I’m “self-proclaimed fun”).
I would describe Jake’s and my taste as classic, simple and elegant. I am truly my mother's daughter, as for me, neutrals are the most beautiful colors in the world. I wanted the room to look romantic with a warm, welcoming ambience. My dress fit in perfectly with these varying elements. And THANK GOD for Danielle Couick from EVOKE, my wedding planner, and Alison de Wit from Distinctive Designs, my florist. They truly were able to bring together all that Jake and I wanted and valued into an event: simplicity, FUN, and elegance. Plus, they had our witty, sarcastic sense of humor; what’s not to love!
To be perfectly honest, I never had the "AH HA!" moment in the dressing room that all the brides on "Say Yes to the Dress" have when they put on the dress that’s "the one". So for those of you never had that moment, your feelings are validated! I questioned my decision everyday until June 11! (Didn’t I mention I’m an over-analytical therapist?!) For me, the moment I knew that my dress was “the one” was on the day of the wedding. I danced the whole night away, was lifted up into the air…twice during the Horah (one time without a chair!), and even CROWD SURFED (yes, the bride crowd surfed…nothing but class), with that fabulous Amsale dress on. THAT’S when I knew I had picked the right dress. I am beyond proud of the gray stains I acquired at the wedding reception that now permanently line the bottom of the dress; they speak to the incredible amount of fun I had at my own wedding.
The wedding was just PERFECT. I think I smiled and laughed the entire evening. My favorite memories from the big day:
· Our dog, Puddles, serving as our “flower dog”
· The father-daughter (and sister) dance inspired by Pulp Fiction (check out the video!)
· Dancing like a mad woman the entire night
· Being lifted in the air…twice…(once without a chair)..during the Horah
· Crowd surfing at the end of the night in my dress (the bustle finally came undone after that experience…but whose wouldn’t?!?!)
Thanks so much to Kim for sharing the details of her wedding day with all of us! Kim, it was truly a joy to work with such a wonderful couple, and all of the Hitched ladies wish you both a future filled with happiness and love (and of course, many more years of fun!).
