Yesterday we talked about the importance of a little indulgence to de-stress your wedding planning mind, but taking care of your body & health along the way is a foolproof method for remaining as calm and relaxed as possible. We called in our friend Antonia from extendYoga, a yogi and bride-to-be, to guest blog today about how yoga can help your ease your mind and tone your body, especially in those pre-wedding months.

Hi there Hitched blog readers! extendYoga is so happy to guest blog today and share what we are so passionate about… de-stressing and getting wedding dress ready before your big day! Well, that’s not exactly what extendYoga is all about, but since I am getting married in November, and happen to co-own a yoga studio, I’m definitely taking advantage of working out while on the clock. Luckily, my business partner is on board since she’s attending our destination wedding in the Cayman Islands and wants to get bathing suit ready!
As you know, planning a wedding is exciting, fun, time consuming and unfortunately, some of the time… stressful! On top of everything, the stress of having to look your best on your big day is yet another item that becomes part of your to-do list.
While I’ve been practicing yoga for years, I’ve been dedicated to taking lots of classes a week since we opened extendYoga last November. And since the big day is just 6 months away, I’m making yoga part of my daily routine – some days it’s for a workout and others it’s to de-clutter my wedding head.

I’m finding the combination of Flow yoga classes (to de-stress and relax), Hot Power yoga classes (for some serious sweating) and TRX Suspension Circuit Bootcamp* (for building muscle, and lots of cardio), to be the perfect pre-wedding mental and physical preparation that I need.
Here’s just a few ways how yoga can help YOU before your wedding:
Mental benefits
• Stress reduction – enjoy your time on the mat, the centerpieces and band
playlist can wait!
• Calms anxiety – learn to breath your way through tough poses and
through hard situations.
• Sleep! Many yoga poses increase blood circulation to the sleep center in
the brain, giving you a good nights sleep.
Physical benefits
• Get a great workout! You can burn up to 500 calories in a 60 minute Hot
Yoga class. Bring a towel!
• Detoxify your body – Lots of twists and sweat help get rid of toxins and
cleanse your body.
• Tone, Tone, Tone! Get lean and build muscle without bulking up.
• Build endurance… so you can dance all night
• Improve your posture – Increased flexibility and strength bring you better
posture (for all those wedding photos).
Bonus benefit: Bring your fiancé! Research connects yoga to a boost in
the “trust and bonding” hormone that’s associated with feeling relaxed and
connected to others.
